Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge
The Khmer Rouge was the name given to the communist political party in Cambodia. It was formed in 1968 and was a side branch of the Vietnam Peoples Army of North Vietnam. The Khmer Rouge were allies of the communist forces during the Vietnam war. But the Khmer Rouge are best known for the Cambodian Genocide. Between the years 1975 an 1979 the Khmer Rouge killed between 1.5 to 3 million Cambodians. The Khmer Rouge used methods such as mass execution, torture, and starvation to kill millions of people.The genocide resulted in 25 percent of the population of Cambodia was Exterminated. The Cambodian Genocide was done in the name of purifying the populous. Living during the Cambodian Genocide was terrifying. Cambodians lived in fear of being executed everyday. They were also forced into nonstop labor that eventually killed them anyway.
